Bulega continues to break records on Sunday in Hungary: "It’s fantastic, I’m very proud to do it with Ducati"
With his Hungarian hat trick, Bulega has tied Chaz Davies for ninth in all-time WorldSBK wins
Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) continues to put on an absolute MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in 2026. After two seasons with Toprak Razgatlioglu getting the better of their battles, the #11 is having his day as he leaves the Balaton Park Circuit with a perfect 2026 record: Four rounds, four poles, 12 races, 12 wins.
He started Sunday from pole and was off like a shot at lights out. He flew forward to a maximum margin of 1.5s ahead of his teammate Iker Lecuona on Lap 4, and while from there Lecuona cut away at his margin to a final gap of eight tenths, it was too little too late as Bulega landed his 11th win in a row this season, tying former teammate Alvaro Bautista's (Barni Spark Racing Team) previous record holding 11 consecutive wins and his 15th consecutive win overall. The afternoon’s Race 2 capped off his triumphant weekend, as in the final race of the round, he grew the gap between him and Lecuona in the final laps, as opposed to his teammate closing in.
IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY: “I really wanted this hat trick here at Balaton Park… This is my worst track; it’s always really difficult to ride here”
On his Sunday, Bulega said: “Another amazing weekend, I’m even happier than the last rounds. This is my worst track, for my riding style, it’s always really difficult to ride here. I really wanted this hat trick here at Balaton Park. I was thinking that if I can win here, it will be very beneficial for the Championship and the races to come. I knew Iker would be very strong this weekend, but I had to win here. In the Superpole Race, on the first corner, Montella came in very strong; luckily, I heard him, so I picked up my bike and let him pass. I went very wide, which sent me farther back. It ended up being lucky, because I made a mistake and went wide in the corner before Miguel’s crash, so I was lucky that I had made a mistake, in that I was out of the way. After the restart, we did everything very well, I’m proud of this weekend.”
ALL SMILES FOR DUCATI: “When I see all our team so happy, it makes me even happier.”
Bulega closed the weekend in emphatic fashion as he set a new record for the best ever start to a WorldSBK season, improved his consecutive win record to 16 straight, and now he has tied Colin Edwards and Toprak Razgatlioglu for the most consecutive podiums ever with 25 straight. It seems more records are set to be broken if he can continue this pace, as Race 2 was already the ninth race this year in which he led every lap, the record set in 2019 by Alvaro Bautista.
On the record-breaking start to his season, Bulega said:” It’s fantastic, it makes me very proud to do it with Ducati; an Italian bike, and Italian brand with an Italian rider is something very special. I’m happy, and I want to continue like this. When I see all our team so happy, it makes me even happier. The season is long, though; there are some tracks I like, some I don’t like, and the weather can make things tricky. I will be thinking about things race by race”
